Industry overview

Built on small factories, scaling into global chains.

India's manufacturing base is broad and largely small-scale. MSMEs contribute 30.1% of GDP, 35.4% of manufacturing output and 45.7% of exports, operating in clusters that range from textiles in Tiruppur and Surat to engineering in Pune and Ludhiana. Medium- and high-technology industries now generate 46.3% of manufacturing value added, a sign of steady upgrading.

Policy has turned decisively towards making in India. Production-linked incentive schemes across 14 sectors have drawn about ₹1.76 lakh crore of realised investment and over 12 lakh jobs. Manufacturing value added has grown at roughly 10.9% a year between 2022-23 and 2025-26. For smaller manufacturers, the opportunity lies in joining these supply chains, which demands quality systems, compliance and finance that many have not yet built.

Current landscape

The engine is MSMEs, and the bar is rising.

MSMEs carry an outsized share of India's industrial and export economy. Buyers, lenders and regulators are asking more of them every year.

Key challenges

Five pressures we see most often.

Our industry expertise

How we work in manufacturing.

01

Diagnose the unit economics

Costing by product and customer, capacity utilisation and cash conversion, so decisions on pricing, product mix and investment rest on real numbers.

02

Make the business financeable

Clean accounts, projections and documentation for term loans, working-capital limits, credit-guarantee cover and scheme support.

03

Build compliance and quality systems

Simple, owned systems for GST, labour, environmental and quality compliance that stand up to buyer and lender audits.

04

Move up the value chain

From job-work to own products, from domestic to export, from one buyer to many, with the brand and channel work each step needs.

Questions

Manufacturing, answered.

Mostly micro, small and medium enterprises (family-run units, growing contract manufacturers and exporters) along with clusters and the associations that support them.

Most engagements begin with Financial Solutions (working capital, credit and scheme support) and Organisational Structuring for compliance and governance. Consulting & Strategy and branding follow when the business is ready to move up the value chain.

We assess eligibility, prepare applications and set up the records and reporting each scheme requires. Whether that is a production-linked incentive, a credit-guarantee scheme, ZED certification support or a state industrial policy.

Yes. Our in-depth briefs on Textiles & Apparel and Food Processing cover each sector in detail.
