The Government of India is focusing on six major product categories to boost the country’s exports in the year 2025. The categories include Machinery and Engineering Goods, Pharmaceuticals, Gems and Jewellery, Electronic items, and Agricultural products. The likely destinations for these exports could be the US, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, China, Belgium, Russia, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia.

As per the recent trends, Indian agri products such as bananas, watermelons, ghee, onions, garlic, chillis, and alcoholic beverages have depicted a steady increase in export numbers, giving the government confidence to encourage the exports of these items further. In addition to these, the exports of office stationery items and solar photo-voltaic cells are showing promise in the global market, given that India has recently emerged as the 6th largest exporter of PV cells in the world.

The quantum of India’s product and service exports is expected to cross $800 billion in the year 2024-25, rising from $778 billion in the year 2023-24. The aim is to increase the share of India’s exports in the global markets from the current 2.5% to about 4-5% in the coming years. The recent developments on the global scale to adopt a ‘China+1’ policy could provide Indian exporters with the ideal opportunity to present our country as a viable sourcing option.

The government is currently focusing on building a strategy to streamline the exports of these product categories and improve the ease of doing business. This signals a piece of good news for businesses involved in or hoping to undertake the export of products that fall in the said categories.
